Heating and Cooling | Furnace | Air Conditioner FAQs
Question: How often should I change my filter?
Answer: Typical disposable filters last 90 days, however, it is a good idea to check them monthly. Extreme weather conditions or running the blower all the time may mean more frequent filter changes. There are also some highly efficient media air cleaners that only need to be changed once a year.
Question: Is it OK to run the blower continuously?
Answer: Yes, and there are some benefits! For instance: more even temperatures, cleaner air, plus motor life can actually be extended! Why? Simple, continuous running keeps bearings better lubricated and eliminating repeated starts and stops is good for the motor’s windings.
Question: How often should I have my Air Conditioner and Furnace serviced and checked?
Answer: Manufacturers recommend yearly. Newer, more efficient systems mean tighter manufacturing specs and more complex safeties and sensors to monitor the system. Proper maintenance is always less costly than waiting for something to go wrong.
Question: Why is the upstairs so much hotter in the summer?
Answer: Hot air rises! Quick, easy help is to run the blower in the “on” position. The air conditioner will cycle as needed but the blower keeps moving cool air around the house. Since your thermostat is probably downstairs, your air conditioner shuts off when the downstairs target temperature is reached. A constant blower will keep moving cooler air upstairs until the air conditioning unit kicks back on.
That’s the easy way! There are more advanced solutions, such as: additional duct work, a second “booster” system for the upstairs, or a vented attic fan to move excess heat out of the attic.
Question: Where should I set my thermostat?
Answer: Many find 70-72 degrees a comfortable temperature. However, simply raising your target to 75 or 78 (or 65 in winter) can make a BIG difference in your consumption and costs. When it’s 95 outside, 78 feels pretty good!
Question: How often should I drain my water heater?
Answer: You should drain your water heater once a year.
Question: Do I need a water softener?
Answer: Yes, most areas in the Miami Valley need a water softener. We can test your water’s hardness. If you need a water softener, we can size the unit for your needs.
Question: Can I install a toilet in my basement without digging up my floor?
Answer: Yes, we now have a code-approved toilet and pump that can be plumbed into your existing sanitary system. All plumbing is above the slab – no digging!
Question: When I go on vacation, should I turn the water off to my house?
Answer: Yes, and set your water heater thermostat to vacation.
Question: Should I test my water back flow every year?
Answer: Yes, state code says it should be tested annually be a licensed plumber.
Electrician | Electric Wiring FAQs
Question: Is my electric service big enough for my house?
Answer: You should at least have 100 Amp service. We can help you determine if that’s what you have and if it’s enough.
Question: Do you install generators?
Answer:Yes, we install Eaton Generator Stand-By and a portable generator with a transfer interlock system.
Question: Why are my outlets not working?
Answer: It’s probably a bad breaker or a loose wire. We can fix that!
Question: How can I lower my electric bill?
Answer: An easy solution is LED or Compact Fluorescent light bulbs. Timers will also reduce wasted energy. Often a modern, efficient furnace, air conditioner or tankless water heater can make a big difference in your energy costs.
Question: Do you do small jobs?
Answer: No job is too small! We can change switches, light fixtures, fans, add an outlet – whatever job you need done. Some of our customers make a list and have us do them all at once.
